My parents got angry at me when I started comparing college costs to cars around the $20,000 - $25,000 point.

College = investment
Toyobaru = depreciating asset
I know which one I'd pick.

You'd pick the car, wouldn't you?

My dad also gets angry/depressed when I tell him all of the nice sports cars his kids cost.

Pick the car, race the car, become sponsored with the car, go pro, pay for your own college. BOOM

I will just buy 10 crappy cars and continue on my home run business ventures.

I probably would pick the car, but I unfortunately have to go to college for electrical engineering, so there is almost 50,000 in tuition over all four years at an in-state univrsity

The true correct answer is college. But there will always be that guy...

I read that each kid costs around 130,000 over their lifetime, 2 kids could cost me a brand new Lambo.

A degree in liberal arts would hardly count as an investment, lol.

I'm literally almost done with my junior year of high school..., I have one final left. And I actually do plan on going to college so I don't work in fast food or retail the rest of my life.

Good. Do well on the SAT/ACT, bust your hump in college, get some connections during your junior year at university, then go make decent money.
Just remember: You will NOT like your first job, but do it and be the best at it. That is how you climb the ranks.

I took the SAT, and scored in the top 20%, (I think i got an 1810 or something like that), I have never heard the phrase "bust your hump" I hear "bust your butt" all the time, I assume their more or less the same thing. and I already know a few EE's, my next door neighbor just graduated from college like 3 weeks ago. and there are a couple more that I just happen to know, the (former) dean of engineering used to go to my church, but know he is the president at Montana Tech (I think, I know he's in Montana).

Is that in-state or out-of-state?
Still kind of funny how their out-of-state tuition was only $15k about 8 years ago when I was debating going to them.....

They'll get angrier if you start listing the cars you could buy with 4 years tuition. If I hadn't gotten financial aid I would have spent close to 200,000 on college.

Take a course on how to take the SAT and take it again. Then get a couple of the study manuals, read them several times, then take it again. Having taken it three times, you should finally be ready to do it one more time just to be sure.
My buddy's brother did this with the ACT. His first two attempts were worse than mine, his last two were higher. He ended up with a 30 (max is 36), good enough for a free ride to the college of his choice. Every time I make a student loan payment, I think about this....

But 4 Toyobarus! He could have a fleet of them.
BTW I know how he feels. We're paying around $18k a semester for Duke undergrad.

yeah, I was out of state tuition paying room and board at Michigan State for 4 years when I went to school. Mine was roughly 33k a year.
It's paid for itself already though.

yeah my wife got off cheaper because she commuted, so she didn't have to pay room and board.
I'm sick of all the things I see online about "I graduated and can't get a job" sounds like you shouldn't have majored in basket weaving lol. I was in my career field in 3 months.

That's my thought. I have a friend who for some reason is proud of the tough (aka non existent) market for people with a theater major. I have another friend who is regretting signing up for a French major. My parents told me from a young age I wasn't allowed to do liberal arts.

My theory is you can do what you want but set your expectations accordingly. I've got a friend who graduated with a theater major, he's waits tables.
I have a B.A. in Advertising and I'm working at my 3rd major ad agency in my 6th position. Not only am I in Advertising, I'm in the automotive sector which is exactly what I wanted to do. If you put the effort in you'll make it in the field you want. I tell all recent grads you have to treat finding a job as a full time job. 8 hours of work a day towards finding a job.
